By Claudia Assis

The power company's stock has gained 112% so far this year

Texas-based Vistra Corp. is set to join the S&P 500 index before the opening bell Wednesday, index provider S&P Dow Jones Indices said late Friday.

The power-generation company (VST) replaces Pioneer Natural Resources Co., after oil giant Exxon Mobil Corp. (XOM) acquired Pioneer in a deal that closed Friday.

Shares of Vistra rose nearly 4% in the extended session Friday. The stock has more than doubled so far this year, compared with an advance of around 7.5% for the S&P 500 index SPX.

SmallCap 600 constituent Aaon Inc. (AAON) will replace Vistra in the S&P MidCap 400, the index provider said.
