Airbus Gets United Arab Emirates Telecom Satellites Contract
By Pierre Bertrand
Airbus said that its defence and space business is to build communication satellites for Al Yah Satellite Communications Company.
The European plane maker will design and build the Al Yah 4 and Al Yah 5 geostationary telecommunications satellites for the United Arab Emirates's flagship satellite solutions provider, also known as Yahsat, Airbus said.
The satellites will replace Yahsat's Al Yah 1 and Al Yah 2, launched in 2011 and 2012.
Airbus will additionally provide ground-control segment components. Al Yah 4 and Al Yah 5 are planned to be launched in 2027 and 2028 respectively.
