Comanager Departure Doesn’t Call for Panic; Ratings Unchanged

Analyst Note

Comanager Shannon Rinehart’s August 2024 departure from Columbia Corporate Income doesn’t alter our view of this collaborative effort. Columbia is not immediately replacing Rinehart’s position, instead returning to a three-manager model that long characterized this strategy prior to her 2022 appointment. We maintain our view that remaining comanagers John Dawson and Royce Wilson can continue to capably support longtime lead manager Tom Murphy while also acting to mitigate key-person risk of the 38-year industry veteran. Rinehart is still relatively early in her portfolio management career. She joined Columbia in 2009 and worked as a portfolio analyst prior to becoming a full-time manager in 2020. Beginning in August 2024, she moved to the firm’s tax-exempt group as part of her transition to take over lead municipal-bond portfolio management duties in 2025.
