Toyota Resumes Production of Three Models Involved in Testing Scandal

TOKYO--Toyota Motor has resumed domestic production of three models involved in testing irregularities that emerged during a safety scandal that swept up several major Japanese carmakers.

A Toyota spokesman said Thursday that production had resumed on Wednesday.

The carmaker had halted manufacturing of the three models, including two Corolla models and a Yaris Cross compact sport utility vehicle, after saying that it mishandling test data earlier this year and received a government order to halt shipments.

The transport ministry lifted the suspension order in late July.

Toyota had initially planned to resume operations on Monday evening. But it had to delay the plan due to the impact of a powerful typhoon that hit Japan last week.

Despite the testing scandal that also affected other Toyota group automakers, the company in early August reported solid revenue for the April-June quarter thanks to stronger sales of hybrid vehicles and a weaker yen.
