JPMorgan Chase & Co. has promoted a long-serving dealmaker to co-head its mergers and acquisitions team in Europe.

Cassander Verwey, who currently leads the Wall Street bank's head of investment banking for the Netherlands, has been named co-head of M&A in Europe, the Middle East and Africa alongside Dwayne Lysaght, according to a memo seen by Financial News.

Verwey's appointment follows the departure of Carsten Woehrn, its co-head of Emea M&A and co-head of financial sponsors M&A, who left for Goldman Sachs in April, FN revealed.

Woehrn was later named co-head of M&A at Goldman Sachs in Emea alongside Nimesh Khiroya.

Verwey has worked at JPMorgan for 25 years, and was latterly senior country officer and head of investment banking in the Netherlands.

"Effective immediately, Cassander will take on the role as co-head of EMEA M&A and work closely with Dwayne to lead the M&A team in delivering tailored service and advice to our clients in the region," the memo from Anu Aiyengar, global head of M&A, and Conor Hillery and Matthieu Wiltz, deputy CEOs of Emea, said.

JPMorgan has shaken up the senior ranks of its investment bank following the departure of Vis Raghavan to Citigroup in February, where he is head of banking.

Filippo Gori has taken on Raghavan's previous roles as CEO of Emea and co-head of JPMorgan's investment bank.

Hillery previously co-headed European investment banking alongside Dorothee Blessing, who has now taken on the role of global co-head of investment banking coverage alongside Jay Horine.
