Several Los Angeles Refineries Open Flare Stacks — OPIS
The South Coast Air Quality Management District has released a slew of flaring incidents for multiple Los Angeles-based refineries over the week, with some facilities carrying out maintenance work and others launching investigations into the latest upsets.
Phillips 66 personnel are searching for answers Friday following an unplanned flaring event at the Carson section of the company's 147,000 b/d Los Angeles facility. Details surrounding the incident are currently unknown and remain under investigation, the SCAQMD filing states.
"Phillips 66 typically does not comment on refinery operations, regulatory filings or commercial activities," a Phillips 66's spokesperson told OPIS.
Chevron notified state agencies of an unplanned flaring event taking place at its 290,500 b/d El Segundo facility Thursday. The circumstances prompting the incident are unknown as company personnel search for answers.
A Chevron representative could not be reached for comment at the time of publication.
Marathon Petroleum Corp. notified state officials Tuesday of a planned flaring event that kicked off Wednesday at the Carson section of the company's 382,000 b/d Los Angeles refinery and will carry on until Aug. 28 for "start-up/shut down" work, the SCAQMD filing states.
The refinery opened an investigation into an unplanned flaring incident on Aug. 9, according to an SCAQMD filing. Marathon submitted an additional unplanned flaring notification to state agencies on Aug. 10 with the filing indicating "start-up/shut down" as the reason for the incident.
"We don't typically provide comment on our operations beyond any filings we make, but appreciate the opportunity," a Marathon representative stated.
