Entegris to Get $75 Million Chips Act Funding for Colorado Plant
By Colin Kellaher
The U.S. government is granting Entegris up to $75 million to help fund a new Colorado plant aimed at boosting domestic output of products that support the U.S. semiconductor manufacturing industry.
Entegris on Wednesday said it signed a non-binding, preliminary memorandum of terms with the Commerce Department to receive the funding under the Chips Act, a nearly $53 billion government effort passed in 2022 to jump-start domestic semiconductor production.
Entegris said it plans to use the funds to build a new manufacturing facility in Colorado Springs that will increase production capabilities for front-opening-unified pods, which transport and protect silicon wafers during the semiconductor manufacturing process, as well as advanced liquid filtration and purification products.
The Billerica, Mass., company said the plant, slated to begin initial commercial operations in 2025, will create about 600 new jobs over the next several years, along with roughly 500 construction jobs.
