Thales to Increase French Munitions Production Following French Army Contract

By Adam Whittaker

Thales will quadruple ammunition production capacity at its La Ferte Saint Aubin site in France to fulfil a contract with the French army.

The French defense company received a new order from France's Joint Munitions Command for tens of thousands of 120 millimeter rifled ammunition, it said Monday. The latest contract builds on an initial order for 3,000 120mm illuminating mortar rounds placed in 2022 and an order for 15,000 rounds of 120mm explosive and exercise ammunition in 2023.

Thales's La Ferte Saint Aubin site is set to increase its production rates to an overall annual output of more than 80,000 rounds a year by 2026 from 20,000 rounds in 2023, the company said. The munitions will be delivered between 2024 and 2029, with a first shipment scheduled for the last quarter of 2024.
