NH Industries Signs EUR600 Million Deal With NATO For Helicopter Upgrade
By Michael Susin
NH Industries, a joint venture between Airbus Helicopters, Leonardo and GKN Fokker, signed a contract valued at 600 million euros ($648.5 million) with NATO Helicopter Management Agency for the development of the NH90 helicopter upgrade.
NH Industries said on Thursday the first phase of the NH90 Block 1 upgrade includes the improvement of the communication suite and, among others, the identification and tracking of military aircraft.
NH90 is a European medium-sized, twin-engine military helicopter.
"We have a clear plan to extend the life span of the NH90 up to 50 years and we will need to upgrade the aircraft to make sure it stays relevant on the battlefield of tomorrow. The Block 1 program will cover the next ten to fifteen years," President of NHI and Head of NH90 Program at Airbus Helicopters Axel Aloccio said.
