Macquarie Consortium to Buy Digi's Spanish Fiber Network for Up to $813 Million
By Adria Calatayud
A consortium of Macquarie Capital, abrdn and Arjun Infrastructure Partners agreed to buy Digi Communications' Spanish fiber network for up to 750 million euros ($812.8 million), the companies said Friday.
The network will be operated by Onivia, a provider of wholesale-fiber services jointly owned by the infrastructure investors, and will nearly double its network coverage to around 10 million homes, the buyers said.
Digi separately said its Spanish network currently includes about 4.25 million homes and targets to reach 6 million over the next three years. The Romanian telecommunications company is now the fourth largest telecom operator in Spain after the merger between Orange's business there with MasMovil.
Under the agreement, the consortium has an option to buy any future fiber rollouts from Digi in the provinces where it currently has a network, subject to certain conditions, the buyers said.
The deal remains subject to customary closing conditions, the companies said.
