Gender Equity

What is gender equity?

Gender equity is fair treatment and equal opportunity for people of all genders in the workplace.

There are many reasons for having gender-diverse teams. The first is that research shows diverse teams tend to make better decisions. Another is talent: Including more women in a job search increases the chances of hiring an exceptional candidate.

Others see diversity as a civic duty -- that hiring diverse teams is the right thing to do. A diverse workforce also reduces the risk of potential lawsuits and mitigates the risk of reputational damage.

Issues around gender diversity often surround corporate boards. In 2000, only 10.9% of U.S. board of directors were women. By 2018, this figure increased to 21.9%. We expect numbers to continue rising with the help of state legislatures and investor advocates.
